Girl Scout Cookie Program 2008

ClapboardNOTE: Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana is extending the cookie program through Saturday, March 22,  2008.
Please use this extension as an opportunity to schedule additional cookie booths and continue to take and fulfill other cookie orders.

Lights, cameras, action! Let's get ready to make it a hit and kick off the 2008 Cookie Program for Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana. Girls will shine as they learn new skills, explore leadership possibilities, and have fun striving to reach new goals through the Girl Scout Cookie Program. The Cookie Program is much more than just another sale. It is one of the top entrepreneurial opportunities for girls nationwide. Girls learn responsibility, goal setting techniques, improve math and leadership skills, and gain self confidence.

From training the troop cookie chairs to setting goals and spending troop profit, we all have important responsibilities in making our cookie program successful for the Girl Scouts in Kentuckiana. Each girl will discover that, individually, she can make a difference, but together she and her troop can impact an entire community. Our customers look forward to their favorite cookies, and they will soon be looking for Girl Scout Cookie booths in their neighborhoods. Our work has just begun, but what a difference we can make this year if we are prepared, enthusiastic, and confident in our abilities! Remember to encourage recycling of those cartons and boxes.

Thanks to all of our cookie customers! Remember, the cookie program runs through March 16. If you want to purchase cookies or if you would like to donate cookies to Kentucky Harvest or another organization, please let us know.

Is the purchase of Girl Scout Cookies tax-deductible?
No, if the customer keeps the cookies. Individuals who buy Girl Scout Cookies and take the cookies home, or consume them, have purchased a product at a fair market value. For this reason, no part of the price of a box of Girl Scout Cookies used in this way is tax-deductible. Yes, if the customer leaves the cookies with Girl Scouts. Many Girl Scouts ask customers to pay for one or more boxes of cookies for use in their community service project, for example, collecting for a food pantry. The customers not receiving any Girl Scout Cookies do not benefit directly from paying for them. Those individuals may treat the purchase price of the donated cookies as a charitable contribution. Individuals with specific questions should seek advice from a tax accountant.

Thanks to all the volunteers who help make the Girl Scout Cookie Program such a great fundraiser!

  • Remember that cookies sell for $3.50 a box and are not to be sold on the Internet.
  • Daisy Girl Scouts, leaders, and parents DO NOT sell cookies.
  • And remember, parents, that girls should be selling most of the cookies themselves.
  • Don't forget to write your ordering customers a thank-you note!
