Helpful Hints about Adult Awards

From The Council Recognitions Committee

  • Areas and service units may develop awards of their own. These awards could be given for troop, service unit or area positions such as Family and Community Partnership Chair, Fall Product Sale Chair, Cookie Chair, Unit Leader at Day Camp, Rookie of the Year, or other similar service.
  • Each service unit and/or area association needs to keep records of volunteer activities, positions, and dates. Service units or areas can use the Membership Profile form #306. In addition, retain copies of all award applications submitted to the Service Center Awards & Recognitions Committee. The Service Center and Council Awards & Recognitions Committee will communicate their actions and decisions to each Area. Results of committee action(s) should be added to forms kept on file.
  • The Recognition Request Forms, #501, #516, #517, #518 & #519, are available from each service center office and on the Girl Scout web site at www.kyanags.org.
  • Only earned awards (such as the Progressive Volunteer Award) may be self-nominated.
  • Please complete the forms with as much information as can be found about the applicant. A narrative of the applicant’s work or letter of endorsement is always helpful and appropriate. For National Awards and some Kentuckiana awards, 1 to 4 letters of recommendation must be attached. Complete, detailed information makes it easier for the committee to make a decision.
  • Forms should be forwarded to the service center by the published date of the Awards & Recognitions Committee meeting. This deadline is no later than March 1.  Metro Service Center deadline is February 1 for board approved awards.
  • The practice of the Awards & Recognitions Committee is not to approve awards for an individual in consecutive years unless there are extenuating circumstances which should be explained in detail in an additional letter to the committee.
  • It is appropriate for anyone with knowledge of an adult’s service in Girl Scouting to submit information to the Awards & Recognitions Committee. It is the Committee’s desire to recognize any individual who is giving worthy service to Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana. At times appropriate referrals come from outside the individual’s own Area Association.
